The class of Deputy Sheriff (On-Call) is distinguished from the Deputy Sheriff class in that employees are hired as temporary replacements for regular Deputy Sheriffs who are absent due to vacation, sick leave, military duty, leave without pay, etc. or for periods of peak workload.
