POSITION:                  Driver (DN7Q0002)

DEPARTMENT:            (100 Corps Community Center) / Sacramento Citadel Corps

LOCATION:                  Sacramento, CA         

SUPERVISOR:             Corps Officer(s), Major Rio Ray

STATUS:                      Non-Exempt / On-Call

This position is responsible for providing a safe and dependable group transportation in accordance with Federal Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements, and the philosophy of The Salvation Army Citadel Corps, for the Corps family and to enhance the programs and ministries of the Corps.



  1. Provide transportation for adults and children in need for Church related activities which include but not limited to Worship Service, Sunday School, Home League, Harvest Initiative, and kettle sites.
  2. Provide transportation of various groups to speial events which include but not limited to concerts, retreats, seminars, recreational activities, and field trips.
  3. Completion of daily trip logs with monthly submission to Corps Assistant
  4. Completion of inspection checklist when driving DOT regulated vehicles.
  5. Provide routine maintenance which includes:
  6. As needed: gasoline, trash disposal, and clutter removal,
  7. Weekly: washing and vacuuming,
  8. Quarterly: Oil changes, lube, tire rotation, safety inspection, and deep cleaning.
  9. Work with Corps Assistant to assist in providing other maintenance as repairs as needed.
  10. Ensure vehicle safety by closing all windows and locking all doors when not in use.
  11. Responsible for assigned vehicle keys.
  12. Work cooperatively with other staff members, parents/caregivers by supporting their role as supervisor or chaperone, and communicate in a manner that demonstrates respect and concern.
  13. Cooperate with other professional members in assessing and assisting to solve adult and children’s concerns and challenges in emergency situations.
  14. Maintain a positive and professional image at all times.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.



Education Requirements

  1. Possession of a high school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.



  1. Ability to communicate effectively in the English language, both verbal and written.
  2. Must be proficient in basic computer skills and possess the ability to learn additional computer technology



  1. Must pass The Salvation Army background check.
  2. Non-DOT Drivers must possess a valid California Class C Driver License, and ability to drive a Salvation Army vehicle, which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Must be 21 years or older.
    • Complete the Salvation Army vehicle course training.
  3. DOT Driver – must possess Possession of a valid Class A or B Driver License or with passenger endorsement is an added advantage, or ability to obtain within six months of hire, which includes, but is not limited to:
    • Must be 21 years or older.
    • Must pass DOT Pre-Employment and DOT Physical.
    • Obtain a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) from the DMV and present upon interview.
    • Authorize The Salvation Army to add name to the DMV Pull Notice Program.
    • Complete The Salvation Army vehicle course training.

  2. Ability to reach, stoop, kneel, and handling objects
  3. Ability to lift objects up to 40 pounds.
  4. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
