Rex and Margaret Fortune School of Education is a network of tuition-free, public charter schools (TK-12th) in Sacramento/San Bernardino County. We prepare students for college starting in Transitional Kindergarten and are focused on closing the African American achievement gap.
Our Mission: To graduate high achieving students of good character prepared for college and citizenship in a democratic society.
Our Vision: To prepare teachers for service in public schools with competence and sensitivity that will enable them to develop students to their fullest potential.
Our Approach: The foundation for our success is establishing a culture of high expectations for all of our students. Our standards-aligned materials are taught to fidelity with rigor and consistency. Across subjects, we seek to increase student voice and foster critical thinking. We use data to drive instruction and to ensure the adults in our system are accountable for academic results. Individualized instruction is critical, especially for students struggling to achieve mastery, so we utilize intersession time for small group, targeted support and instruction. Our teachers are highly valued professionals and we treat them as such by promoting a culture of planning and professional development aligned to their needs and abilities.
Elementary School: At Fortune School, our elementary students develop fluency in reading and math through student-centered classrooms that prepare them for college.
Middle School: Our Middle School Students develop critical thinking skills through intense novel study that is aligned to informational texts and synthesized into robust writing assignments in English and Humanities.
Early College High School: We have a science, technology, engineering, arts, and math curricula focus where students have the opportunity to earn an associate's degree by high school graduation while meeting a-g requirements for transfer to UC and CSU systems.
