East Lawn is Sacramento's premier funeral home and a privately owned company. We are currently recruiting for Funeral Directors in the Sacramento and Elk Grove areas.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

  • Provide a professional approach and decorum with customers and fellow staff members, and adhere to East Lawn’s Mission Statement and Values.
  • Consult with families to arrange funeral details.
  • Provide information on funeral service options, products, or merchandise, and maintain a casket and urn display area.
  • Obtain information needed to complete legal documents, such as the death certificate and required permit.
  • Plan, schedule, or coordinate funerals, visitations, burials, or cremations, arranging details such as floral delivery or the time and place of services.
  • Arrange for clergy members to perform needed services.
  • Compassionately release cremated remains to families using proper policy and procedure.
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as organize and manage files and records; accurately complete contracts, authorities, state required forms and claim forms; process insurance claims, complete required reports; other office procedures and terminology.
  • Collect full payment before services are rendered.
  • Ability to understand the general price list (GPL), casket price list (CPL), urn catalogs, death benefits, funeral customs, and pre-arrangement funding, comply with credit policy.
  • Ability to drive funeral vehicles, such as a van or hearse, in funeral processions.
  • Other duties as required.
  • Ability to use computer applications to create, manipulate, edit, and show virtual slide presentations.
  • Working with pictures in graphics programs or other applications, including creating simple graphics, manipulating the appearance, and inserting graphics into other programs.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Insurance license is preferred.
  • Bilingual is a plus!

  • Knowledge of methods for showing, promoting, and selling products or services.
  • Provide excellent customer and community relations. This includes customer need assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Knowledge of mortuary and cemetery pricing with the ability to read GPL and CPL.
  • Knowledge of funeral laws preferred.
  • Knowledge of veteran and survivor benefits preferred.
  • Ability to use phone etiquette and maintain personable and courteous attitude to clients and other employees.
  • Visually represent the company by adhering to the East Lawn Dress Code.


Funeral Director:

  • Associate’s degree.
  • On-the-job training.
  • California State Funeral Directors License

Computer Skill

  • Intermediate to advanced skills with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook are required as well as understanding of media and video streaming.
  • Ability to complete contracts using the current program, SRS. On the job training provided.

Certificates and Licenses

  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
  • Funeral Director must possess a California State Funeral Director License.
  • Insurance license is preferred.

This position requires employees to work indoors with controlled environment and outdoors exposed to all weather conditions; very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold (below 32 F degrees) temperatures.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit or stand for long periods of time. The employee must constantly reach with arms, hands and fingers. Employee must be able to work in close contact with small and large groups. Frequent hearing, talking and public speaking is required. Regular keyboard typing is required. Must be able to lift and carry items or equipment up to 75 lbs.
