Care Center Assistant

Part Time on call

$16.50 Hourly rate plus $50 piece rate per removal

Must have clean driving record and pass pre-employment drug screen/physical

Summary:

Assists with daily functions of Care Center to include transportation of human remains and courier duties to East Lawn facilities and other business entities.

 Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following.

• Provide a professional approach and decorum with customers and fellow staff members, and adhere to East Lawn’s Mission Statement and Values.
• Provide removal and transportation of human remains.
• Perform transportation and courier duties between East Lawn facilities and other business entities. 
• Miscellaneous errands such as delivering items to a family home; small item pick-up and delivery; clean, gas and stock company vehicles.
• Report vehicle maintenance issues to management.
• Assist embalmers with duties allowable by law as a worker without an embalming license.
• Maintain a clean work area to include facilities, equipment, work areas and vehicles.
• Assist Funeral Home and Funeral Directors with coordinating and/or conducting visitation and funeral services when necessary:
• Position requires a minimum of three shifts in a moving quarter (3-months) period, in order to remain employed.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Short-term on-the-job training.

• Perform other duties as assigned

 Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include the following.

1. 1. Distribute service materials such as memorial folders.
   2. Direct clergy, pallbearers and other service participants.
   3. Drive funeral and other service vehicles to transport decedents, flowers, and documents.
   4. Set-up and operate music and video media systems, record services using East Lawn equipment.
   5. Greet and usher family and guests as appropriate.
   6. Assist funeral director with special requests from the family and/or guests.

• Must maintain a neat and clean appearance, adhering to the East Lawn Dress Code. 
• Ability to follow through to complete tasks assigned by management with a sense of urgency.
• Ability to work without direct supervision.
• Ability to anticipate needs to serve internal and external customers. 
• Available to work any day of the week, any time of the day, up to 8-hour shifts, minimal overtime.
• Ability to complete and apply training for removal and transportation of human remains.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Short-term on-the-job training.

Math Ability

• Use mathematics to solve problems.
• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures such as managing files and records, office procedures and terminology.
• Web browser software.
• Microsoft Office.

 Computer Skills

• Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures such as managing files and records, office procedures and terminology.
• Web browser software.
• Microsoft Office.

 Certificates and Licenses

• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

 This position is on the road, in an open office environment, or prep room.  Job tasks will involve driving or riding in large vehicles, desktop business equipment and frequent telephone calls.  Noise level is moderate.  Requires working indoors with controlled environment and outdoors exposed to all weather conditions, very hot (above 90 F degrees) or very cold temperatures.  May be exposed to contaminants.

 While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to drive, stand or sit for long periods.  The employee must constantly reach with hands and fingers.  Employee must be able to work in close contact with small and large groups.  Frequent hearing and talking is required.  The employee must be able to lift and carry items or equipment up to 75lbs and drive large vehicles such as hearse and vans.
