Job Description

The California Foundation on the Environment and the Economy (CFEE) is seeking a Financial and Human Resources Administrator. This is a part-time position with the possibility for full-time employment. The Financial and Human Resources Administrator is responsible for managing the Foundation’s financial and human resource functions as well as supporting various administrative activities. The position works in collaboration with other team members and reports to the Senior Director of Research & Operations. 

CFEE Background

Founded in 1979, CFEE is a 501c3 nonprofit that brings together leadership from the labor, environmental, local government, and business communities with California’s elected and appointed officials. The Foundation conducts domestic policy forums and international study tours to educate California leaders on the fundamental environmental and economic challenges confronting the state in search of balanced and collaborative solutions. Position Duties

  • Daily administration of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, including follow-ups on outstanding contributions
  • Update internal system for tracking financial transactions, including bookkeeping policies and procedures
  • Handle HR for a small, non-profit foundation - 4 f/t employees
    • Including, but not limited to, overseeing payroll & benefits, annual employee reviews, tracking vacation and sick days, maintaining updated job descriptions for each employee and contractors
  • Coordinate with contract CPA and Investment Advisor as needed
  • Twice monthly meetings with President & CEO to review general revenue and expenses
  • Produce quarterly financial reviews of Foundation
  • Assist President & CEO to prepare annual budget for presentation to the Board of Directors
  • Work with President & CEO and Sr. Director of Research and Operations to issue and track         invoices for Board of Directors and event sponsors
  • Work with Conference Coordinator to file timely Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) reports for all CFEE events including four annual conferences, three annual travel missions, and other select events; experience and/or knowledge of FPPC reporting is valuable, additional training can be provided as needed
  • Manage all standard monthly vendor invoices and contracts
  • Manage office space with assistance from office staff including opening and closing downtown office on occasion
  • Provide remote support while staff are traveling and out of office
  • Generate invoices and classify all expenses with relevant staff including recording income, bank deposits, and reconciling all accounts
  • Keeper of confidential documents including employee reviews, salary and benefits information, important account information, and passwords
  • Maintain updated files for all vendor records, credit accounts, cash accounts, personnel records, insurance documents, office and equipment leases, receipts, invoices and board contributions history
  • Other administrative duties as assigned by the Senior Director of Research & Operations

Preferred Experiences, Qualifications, and Skills

  • Five years of experience handling bookkeeping duties and/or bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or related field
  • Proficient with Quick Books, Excel, and File Maker Pro
  • Experience and/or knowledge of Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC) reporting
  • Experience working with non-profits
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Three relevant personal/professional references

Part-time salary is $35/hour – benefits provided at full time employment
