Job Description

**Description** In coordination with the leadership for the assigned communications area, create innovative communication plans, strategies, and messaging that engage Sutter Health employees in novel and compelling ways that inspire, influence and inform. Take a proactive research and Lean-based approach to developing and implementing internal communications plans and strategies for the assigned focus area that builds employee awareness, understanding and commitment to Sutter Health. Oversee the development and implementation of communication strategies and plans that advance Sutter Health's culture, explain key focus area initiatives and foster an understanding of corporate strategies. On behalf of the Sutter Health Communications Department, create innovative and integrated campaigns, activities and events employing a variety of channels and vehicles: interpersonal, town hall meetings, video, newsletter, traditional and social media, print, podcasts, and digital. In partnership with the Creative Director, cultivate a "One Sutter" corporate identity through illustrative graphics, classic typography, engaging photos, inspirational videos and on-point messaging. Ensure the consistent and appropriate use of Sutter Health's brand assets. As necessary, oversee contract communication professionals to ensure aligned communications around strategic priorities. Continually evaluate communications plans and collateral to ensure the effectiveness of the content and distribution methods. **Qualifications** **This position has the ability to be located in the Bay Area or Sacramento** **Education** + BS in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations or related field or Education + significant relevant experience can be substituted. **Registration** + Active membership in the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), American Marketing Association (AMA), International Association of Business Communicators (IBAC), or other similar peer organizations **Experience** + Seasoned professional with communications and public relations expertise as normally obtained during 8+ years of experience in progressively senior positions, preferably in a hospital, physician organization, health care system, communications agency or corporate communications department + Substantial experience in oversight of complex communications strategies as well as reporting, writing and editing in corporate, journalism or agency setting is required + Demonstrated experience overseeing the work of writers, editors, graphic designers, Web designers, audio/video producers and photographers is required + Solid content development and management experience, including the ability to optimize all forms of communications to inspire, inform and influence internal audiences + Established writing experience in focus area + Proven experience is using marketing analytics to make informed communications decisions **Knowledge** + Knowledge of strategic internal communications planning, social networking, graphic standards/corporate identity management, graphic design principles, news/feature/speech/online/script writing and editing techniques, publications development/production/management, principles of photography and audio/video production, audience list maintenance and special events coordination required + Thorough knowledge of communications planning, graphic design and production, multi-media, graphic standards/corporate identity management, publications, Web site development and maintenance, special events, leadership presentations and research + Current knowledge of regional, state and national health care and medicine issues, Northern California current events, and cultural and health care trends is preferred + Strong business acumen and exceptional analytic skills with the proven ability to provide innovative communication solutions to complex problems and to meet business objectives + Functional knowledge of selecting/hiring third-party talent for creative services, graphic design and production, publication development and management, market research and advertising + Understanding of and experience with Lean or other process improvement philosophies and methodologies desired + Proven ability to assess and understand target audience attitudes, opinions and preferences + Professional writing and editing skills with the ability to interpret corporate goals and translate them into an effective communications/constituent relations plan + Strong judgment and decision-making skills essential + Excellent analytical, negotiation and project management skill required + Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills necessary + Demonstrated ability to work with staff at all levels of the organization + Ability to manage and adapt to multiple and rapidly changing priorities required + Ability to energize, mobilize, and influence by fostering productive and **Issues Management/CrisisCommunications** + Promote,protect and enhance the Sutter Health brandby assimilating facts on complex issues, synthesizing and creating compellingcases for direction on issues and crises by providing high-qualitycommunications deliverables + Developand implement multi-audience communications strategies and tactics to proactivelymanage issues and respond to urgent crisis situations + Trackissues and integrate issues management efforts with ongoing proactive communicationsprograms, to ensure integration and alignment with Sutter Health’s mission,vision, values, brand and reputation + Manage responses to media onissues that may affect our reputation internally, externally or with key partners and suppliers + Respond to, and support, sensitivecommunications on actual and emerging issues and crises, frequently in shortdeadline-driving situation + Help identify trends, issues andlegislation and anticipate their effects – an early warning system for emergingissues.
