The Senior Paralegal is responsible for planning, executing and overseeing a variety of corporate and legal projects as an integral member of an OU or OGC Service Team. The Senior Paralegal provides infrastructure and support by proactively assisting internal and external counsel and executive management in specific areas of responsibility. In addition, the Senior Paralegal collaborates with OGC team members related to changes in federal and state laws and the organization's policies and procedures.
Although the Senior Paralegal is subject to oversight by an attorney, the incumbent works very independently — providing knowledge and consultation to management relating to corporate and transactional documents, policy review, legal research, subpoena response review, legislation tracking; and drafts, reviews and/or proofreads complex contracts and other documents. The incumbent thinks strategically, manage multiple projects, leads by example and builds relationships across the organization to encourage a collaborative work environment
Associate's Required or equivalent education/experience.
Bachelor's English, Business, and/or Healthcare preferred.
Certification or Registration as Paralegal:
• A certificate of completion of a paralegal program approved by the American Bar Association, or
• A certificate of completion of a paralegal program at, or a degree from, a postsecondary institution that requires the successful completion of a minimum of 24 semester, or equivalent, units in law-related courses and that has been accredited by a national or regional accrediting organization or approved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary and Vocational Education required.
• Passing the Paralegal Advanced Competency Exam ("PACE") administered by the National Federation of Paralegal Associations ("NFPA”) preferred.
Certified Legal Assistant:
• Passing the Certified Legal Assistant Exam/ Certified Paralegal Exam administered by the National Association of Legal Assistants (“NALA”) preferred.
Must have demonstrated at least 9 years experience as paralegal or comparable experience in a field of expertise relevant to the current position reuqired.

Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive material, including protected health information, executives’ personally identifiable information, payroll information, legal documents and other corporate data and exercise good judgment as it relates to handling of sensitive material.
Ability to effectively conduct manual and computer assisted legal research.
Ability to conduct document review and analysis.
Interpersonal, negotiation and analytical skills to effectively resolve issues and influence others.
Knowledge of or experience in the healthcare environment.
Knowledge of basic legal concepts; legal terminology, principles and procedures.
Knowledge of Outlook, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint & Excel.
Knowledge of California corporate and tax-exemption laws and regulations related to healthcare organizations.
Knowledge of corporate legal entity structures.
