**Position Overview:** The Director of Protective Services (Bay/Valley) is a visionary leader with demonstrated success managing all facets of a comprehensive Protective Services Program. The well-qualified candidate will have extensive experience applying security principles in complex and dynamic operational settings; have well developed business acumen and competencies; be an exceptional communicator; have strong orientations for service, policy development, measurement, and continuous improvement; and be skilled at problem-solving, decision-making, Business Plan development, and execution. This position serves in a provider setting and assists in achieving the mission to safeguard people, property, assets, and Brand in the course of providing world-class quality and affordable care to its communities. The Director interacts with all levels of the Sutter Health organization to establish and maintain a strong and adaptive security posture that aligns with organizational risk tolerance and business strategies. The Director maintains a strong dyad partnership with the Directors of Protective Service (Bay/Valley and System) to tightly integrate, coherently design, and consistently deliver Protective Services at all levels of the organization. The Director will provide direct and tailored security services to the Bay/Valley Area Operating Unit, to include all hospitals, ambulatory surgical centers, medical office buildings, clinics, and other sites designated within the assigned geographic footprint. The Director will be a single-source Protective Services subject matter expert who provides security solutions, alternatives, and recommendations across the full spectrum of the service line, to include (but not limited to) risk-based staffing, investigative support, loss prevention, incident reporting/critical notifications, incident analysis, crime prevention, risk assessments, law enforcement liaison, special event support, and workplace violence prevention to mitigate reasonably foreseeable risks that have the potential to disrupt the delivery of world-class healthcare **Qualifications:** **Education** BA/BS required MA/MS Preferred or equivalent education/experience **Experience** • 10+ years of extensive experience as a seasoned security executive with a proven track record, as typically acquired during 15+ years of Security experience; healthcare security experience valued (not required). •Demonstrated professional experience developing security policies & procedures, managing performance of out-sourced/contract partners, directing & conducting investigations, loss prevention, access control, risk assessments, crime prevention/awareness, workplace violence prevention, and successfully executing other security programs and initiatives that meet organizational objectives in a dynamic environment required. •Demonstrated successful experience developing and communicating a security strategy and aligning projects, initiatives, and resources to execute against the strategy required. •Proven experience executing on a multi-year roadmap of continuous improvement projects designed to keep pace with an ever-evolving threat landscape required. •Demonstrated success in security program transformation initiatives and ability to apply creative/customized security solutions for the business required. •Proven experience interpreting and effectively applying regulatory requirements and industry best practices in ways that are both compliant and tailored to the operational needs and culture of an organization required. •Solid experience showcasing excellent project management and delivery skills. •Comprehensive management experience demonstrating leadership across all of the major functions of security, technology and interfacing with leaders of the core business, peer administrators, and other key internal/external stakeholders required. •Proven experience working in complex, challenging, and dynamic environments required. **Skills and Knowledge** •Solid expertise in formal/structured security risk assessment methodology, including the ability to mitigate risk by synchronizing the efforts and capabilities of people, process, and technology. •In-depth knowledge of building security staffing models; developing post/patrol strategies; effectively applying security technologies; and coherently blending all program elements with tailored processes to effectively manage risk within a clinical environment. •Ability to amass superior knowledge, understanding, and subject matter expertise of relevant legal and regulatory requirements including participating is audit teams/process, such as Joint Commission, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Meaningful Use, Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, and other security and healthcare industry initiatives and regulations. •Strong understanding of the business impact of security tools, technologies, and policies. •Broad working knowledge of health care operations and their related security requirements including, but not limited to, hospitals, clinics, medical offices, and their protective services needs. •Extensive knowledge and understanding of current and emerging physical security trends, risks, threats, countermeasures, vulnerabilities, and mitigations ranging across the spectrum from workplace violence to terrorism to loss prevention to behavioral challenges. •Working knowledge to establish and deliver on key performance indicators that ensure high availability and integrity of security devices and equipment that are integrated into an overarching/coherent security plan. •Understanding of and experience with change management and process improvement philosophies and operational methodologies •Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to give presentations and translate complex concepts into business and clinician relatable language. •Strong ability to establish and maintain a high level of customer trust and confidence. •Demonstrated ability to work under stress in emergencies, and the flexibility to handle simultaneous high pressure demands. •Proven ability to recognize obstacles, creatively solve problems, develop workable alternatives, and ultimately deliver effective solutions. •Demonstrated ability to prioritize tasks so work is completed in an accurate, timely manner. •Advanced level of competency in Microsoft Office Suite, as well as other relevant software for information management, research, and analysis. •Proven ability to incorporate disparate facts and observations into one overall plan, understand it, teach it, and share it. •Demonstrated ability to quickly learn new systems/applications and grasp fundamentals/concepts of systems. •Strong negotiation and vendor relationship skills. •High level of personal integrity, as well as the ability to professionally handle confidential matters, and consistently display an executive level of judgment and maturity. •Superior ability to interact with all stakeholders, build strong relationships at all levels across all business units and organizations, and understand business imperatives. •Demonstrated ability to balance strategic planning and tactical execution. •Demonstrated ability to create tools to enable the ability to see, decide, and act on relevant information and continuously drive process and program improvements. •Demonstrated ability to direct the collection of relevant data;
