Provides tele-nursing care to a diverse population of critically ill patients across multiple ICUs at various hospitals.
**Education, Licensure and Certifications**
Bachelor's in Nursing is preferred. CA RN required. CCRN is required or must be obtained within 6 months of hire. CCRN-E acceptable. EKG required. BLS for the healthcare provided required. ACLS required.
Experience in critical care nursing is required as is typically obtained in about 5 years. Nurses with significant experience in critical care nursing typically obtained in about 10 years may work as dedicated staff in the eICU. Those that do not meet this level of experience must work 12-24 hours per pay period in an ICU environment as defined by the AACN in addition to their eICU shifts.
**Skills and Knowledge**
Demonstrates critical care knowledge; knowledge of legal policies relating to patient decisions and outcomes. Knowledge of medical terminology. Demonstrates safety, proficiency and knowledge of technical functions required in the accomplishment of regular patient care activities, including: all types of patient care equipment including oxygen/respiratory delivery devices; medication administration, IV management, including administration of blood/blood products; Infection control issues, including sterile technique and universal precautions; mobility/immobility issues, including patient classification. Requires the ability to independently practices and prioritizes demands in an ever-changing, dynamic environment. Must demonstrates understanding of pathophysiology and rationale of special needs and common problems associated with physiological, psychosocial, safety, learning, rehabilitative, spiritual/cultural and self care issues. Must be proficient in hemodynamic lines, mechanical ventilation, inter-cranial pressure (ICP) monitoring, general anesthesia, IV infusion titration, and monitoring and assessing patients requiring sedation. Must have demonstrated s critical thinking skills; effective English written and verbal communication skills; proficiency with windows-based computer operations. Must also demonstrate skills in basic math, delegation, leadership and team management.
