A Pharmacy Technician is a highly trained person with specialized skills who functions to provide timely preparation and distribution of medications, IV solutions and DME under the supervision of a licensed Pharmacist, for subsequent administration to the patient.
High school diploma or equivalent education with college courses including chemistry, physiology, and algebra desirable.
Completion of a recognized pharmacy technician training program desired.
At least one year experience as a hospital pharmacy technician is preferred.
Registration with California State Board of Pharmacy required.
Certification through Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, Inc. desirable.
This position requires knowledge of medical terminology; pharmaceutical generic and trade names; pharmaceutical calculations; and laws and regulations relating to the practice of pharmacy.
Working knowledge of a hospital pharmacy is desired.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to read and interpret physician orders.
Technicians are also required to have skills which consist of: typing ability; "basic" computer operation skills; performance of sterile parenteral procedures using proper aseptic technique, including use of vertical and horizontal air flow hoods; and proper handling and disposal of potentially hazardous chemicals.
