The Surgery Attendant assists in the coordination and prioritizing of unit activities, in conjunction with Charge RN, Circulating RN, Surgical Technologist, Physician, and Anesthesiologist to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the surgery department. Primary activities include procedure room preparation, patient positioning, patient transportation, and environmental control to ensure the safe handling of patients, positioning devices, and disinfection agents. In addition to primary activities the Surgery Attendant is responsible for the transportation, cleaning, and setting up of equipment for surgical procedures. Employees working in this position are expected to accept and perform other duties as requested.
+ Knowledgeable in patient lift techniques, surgical equipment use, cleaning equipment use, and disinfection agents. Uses safe body mechanics and moving techniques to transfer patients to beds or gurneys to surgery tables and vice versa.
+ Communicates with RN, Surgical Technologist, Physician, and Anesthesiologist regarding patient readiness, patient positioning, patient transportation, and various other duties within their scope of practice.
+ Cleans rooms after use, disinfects equipment used, stocks linens, Saline, and sterile water in warmers and other areas of the department as needed.
+ Performs job duties in an efficient manner as to expedite procedure turn over and set up time.
+ Ability to safely move and transport patients and related equipment and devices individually and as part of a team.
+ Responds to emergencies and demonstrates knowledge or roles per hospital policy / procedure.
+ Demonstrates, effectiveness, and discretion in dealing with all members of the Surgery team and other team members.
+ Actively seeks opportunities to assist co-workers and consistently communicates relevant information regarding work priorities and problems in an accurate and efficient manner.
+ GED or an equivalent combination of education and experience
+ 2 years previous hospital experience preferred, such as patient mobilization, environmental cleaning, and surgery department is preferred.
**Licensures and certifications:**
+ Basic Life Support Certification - HealthCare Provider - BLS-HCP is required.
**Skills and Knowledge:**
+ Advanced knowledgeable of proper body mechanics and safe transfer techniques.
+ Advanced knowledge and safe operation of a variety of surgical and transport equipment.
+ Intermediate knowledge of basic Anatomy and Physiology.
+ Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a rapidly changing, fast-paced, and challenging environment.
+ Intermediate knowledge of what constitutes and medical emergency requiring a physician or licensed nurse's attention.
+ Ability to handle multiple and competing demands, prioritizing multiple requests.
