Job Description

**Position Overview:** **POSITION SUMMARY** Performs physical therapy, occupational therapy treatment under the direct supervision of a therapist. Greets, identifies and registers the patient for service. Collects and enters confidential demographic and financial data. Obtains patient and guarantor signatures, and secures patient valuables. Provides excellent customer service to the patient and family members. Conducts assigned department support work activities. **Principal Accountabilities** Collects appropriate co-pays and deposits, writing receipts as necessary. Documents information in the various appropriate computer system applications. Makes copies as needed. Completes post-intervention activities: session closure, documentation, communication, charge capture. Ensures all appropriate authorizations and signatures are obtained for services to be provided. Completes any required third party payer forms. Notifies department provider of patient's arrival. May transport or escort patient to a clinical department. Obtains confidential information from the patient or a family member including demographic, financial and medical. Notes and follows up on any information not available at time of registration. Performs support activities such as, but not limited to treatment assist, transportation, scheduling and assigned office tasks as directed. Prepares for therapeutic intervention. Treats patients using therapeutic procedures, modalities and or equipment as directed and under the supervision of the therapist. **Qualifications:** **MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS** **Education/including Licensure/ Certification/ Registration** BLS Healthcare Provider High school diploma or equivalent required. **Knowledge** Requires understanding of health insurance concepts, including HMO, PPO, Medicare, Medi-Cal, Work Comp, and other federal and state agency programs. Requires knowledge of medical and billing terminology. Understanding of basic anatomy and physiology required. General knowledge of relevant rehabilitation therapy therapeutic procedures and modalities preferred. **Experience** Ability to read, write and speak English required. Prior relevant experience in a rehabilitation therapy healthcare setting or insurance related field preferred. Strong customer service experience preferred. Knowledge of medical terminology, billing, insurance and authorization processes preferred. Must have strong computer skills. **Skills** Requires critical thinking, problem solving, decisive judgment and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to collect information from patients accurately at a fast pace while maintaining patient confidentiality. Must be able to work in a demanding environment, balance multiple priorities and take appropriate actions. Must be able to assess data reflective of patient's status.
