The Acute Inpatient Cardiac/ACHD Nurse Practitioner (Cardiac NP) manages and coordinates the care of cardiology service patients and can specialize in one of two tracks. The Acute Inpatient Cardiac Nurse Practitioner:assesses and provides medical care and treatment utilizing standardized procedures, and multidisciplinary collaboration to provide best hospital outcomes.Population served includes adolescents, adults, and geriatrics, and interventional cardiology/surgical and medical cardiology practices.Acts proactively in the prevention of short term and long term complications of disease.The ACHD Advanced Nurse Practitioner (Congenital Heart Disease): provides advanced nursing practice to adults with congenital heart disease through and at all stages of an illness trajectory, delivered with autonomy of decision making and therapeutic action.This practice encompasses a documented responsibility for clinical leadership through the advancement of nursing practice. The incumbent is responsible for the promotion of high quality, evidence-based practice within their caseload and achievement of development, research and audit goals throughout the specialty.
**Education** **Required are:**
+ Registered Nurse - State Licensure with an Adult or a Family Nurse Practitioner; with possession of or eligible to apply for, a furnishing number to dispense
+ Family Nurse Practitioner - NP
+ Nurse Practitioner Furnishing - NPF, a furnishing number and DEA# including schedule II-V
+ Basic Life Support Certification - BLS
+ Advanced Cardiac Life Support - ACLS (preferred)
+ Previous experience as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in an outpatient or inpatient cardiac setting and previous experience in cardiac related research studies is preferred.
+ Previous cardiology critical care experience is preferred.
**Skills and Knowledge:**
+ Knowledge of current cardiac medical practice, knowledge of adult educational planning, implementation and evaluation.
+ Demonstrated excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are necessary.
+ Clinical research skills, basic computer skills (access, enter and retrieve data; Word, and Excel skills preferred).
+ Must be able to work with autonomy, adaptability, flexibility and maintain composure during pressures and adverse conditions and work as an effective team member in a collaborative role with other disciplines.
