The primary role of the **Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)** is to coordinate and deliver care of the post anesthesia patient immediately post operatively, addressing the physical, psychological, safety, rehabilitative, and learning needs of patients and their families. This function is performed in association with nursing peers and co-workers, attending physicians, and allied support services. The Registered Nurse in PACU uses the nursing process, medical therapeutics, and technological and personal interventions to a population including infants, children, adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients.
**MINIMUM POSITION REQUIREMENTS:**
Graduate of an accredited registered nurse program. Current California RN license or interim permit.
Acute care experience preferred. Experience in area of clinical specialty preferred.
Knowledge of nursing process in the assessment of physical and psychological needs of patients and their significant others. Demonstrate basic nursing skills. Aware of adult learning principles in providing teaching of patients and their significant others. Current Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider (BLS-HCP), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred in specialty areas.
**SGH PACU Specific Requirements:**
Two years PACU or ICU experience required.
Current ACLS on hire and must maintain recognition.
Demonstrate competency with hemodynamic monitoring.
Demonstrate competency with ventilator management.
**SMH PACU Department Specific Requirements:**
One year of PACU or ICU, PICU, NICU or ER experience required
Current ACLS certification or obtained within 6 months of hire and recognition maintained.
Current PALS certification or obtained within 6 months of hire and recognition maintained.
Demonstrates competency with hemodynamic monitoring
Demonstrates competency with ventilator management
