Job Description

**Position Overview:** In coordination with the leadership for the assigned communications area, create innovative communication plans, strategies, and messaging that engage Sutter Health employees in novel and compelling ways that inspire, influence and inform. Take a proactive research and Lean-based approach to developing and implementing internal communications plans and strategies for the assigned focus area that builds employee awareness, understanding and commitment to Sutter Health. Oversee the development and implementation of communication strategies and plans that advance Sutter Health's culture, explain key focus area initiatives and foster an understanding of corporate strategies. On behalf of the Sutter Health Communications Department, create innovative and integrated campaigns, activities and events employing a variety of channels and vehicles: interpersonal, town hall meetings, video, newsletter, traditional and social media, print, podcasts, and digital. In partnership with the Creative Director, cultivate a "One Sutter" corporate identity through illustrative graphics, classic typography, engaging photos, inspirational videos and on-point messaging. Ensure the consistent and appropriate use of Sutter Health's brand assets. As necessary, oversee contract communication professionals to ensure aligned communications around strategic priorities. Continually evaluate communications plans and collateral to ensure the effectiveness of the content and distribution methods. **IS Communications** + Earn and enhance awareness, utilization and optimizationof the Sutter Health electronic health records (EHR) and its ongoing upgrades,product enhancements and changes among EHR users + Build intra-IS and system-wide employee and physicianawareness, understanding and utilization of new IS processes, applications,tools and enhancements + Design and implement high-quality communications vehicles,such as EHR alerts, key messaging, fact sheets, FAQs, talking points, memos,videos, social media messaging, media kits, and appropriate internal andexternal websites + Oversee development of multi-audience communicationsstrategies and tactics to respond to urgent and crisis situations involving theEHR and IS processes + EnsureIS employees are informed about important IS function priorities and news **Qualifications:** **Education** + BS in Communications, English, Journalism, Public Relations or related field or Education + significant relevant experience can be substituted. **Experience** + Seasoned professional with communications and public relations expertise as normally obtained during 6+ years of experience in progressively senior positions, preferably in a hospital, physician organization, health care system, communications agency or corporate communications department + Substantial experience in oversight of complex communications strategies as well as reporting, writing and editing in corporate, journalism or agency setting is required + Demonstrated experience overseeing the work of writers, editors, graphic designers, Web designers, audio/video producers and photographers as part of program management is required + Solid content development and management experience, including the ability to optimize all forms of communications to inspire, inform and influence internal audiences + Established writing experience in focus area + Proven experience is using marketing analytics to make informed communications decisions **Knowledge** + Knowledge of strategic internal communications planning, social networking, graphic standards/corporate identity management, graphic design principles, news/feature/speech/online/script writing and editing techniques, publications development/production/management, principles of photography and audio/video production, audience list maintenance and special events coordination required + Thorough knowledge of communications planning, graphic design and production, multi-media, graphic standards/corporate identity management, publications, Web site development and maintenance, special events, leadership presentations and research + Current knowledge of regional, state and national health care and medicine issues, Northern California current events, and cultural and health care trends is preferred + Strong business acumen and exceptional analytic skills with the proven ability to provide innovative communication solutions to complex problems and to meet business objectives + Functional knowledge of selecting/hiring third-party talent for creative services, graphic design and production, publication development and management, market research and advertising + Understanding of and experience with Lean or other process improvement philosophies and methodologies desired + Proven ability to assess and understand target audience attitudes, opinions and preferences + Professional writing and editing skills with the ability to interpret corporate goals and translate them into an effective communications/constituent relations plan + Strong judgment and decision-making skills essential + Excellent analytical, negotiation and project management skill required + Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills necessary + Demonstrated ability to work with staff at all levels of the organization + Ability to manage and adapt to multiple and rapidly changing priorities required + Ability to energize, mobilize, and influence by fostering productive and collaborative working relationships with internal and external constituencies, including the effective management of resources + Demonstrated ability to synthesize information and ideas across a maintain production schedules and strictly adhere to multiple timelines and budgets + Solid budget and finance skills, with the ability to negotiate effectively with staff, senior management, vendors, media partnerships, external agencies and organizations + Competency in Microsoft Office suite, including working knowledge of graphic design, data management, and statistical analysis software
