Construction Specialist  (Full Time)

SUMMARY OF POSITIONS

Performs any combination of the following tasks in and about the production environment. 

Specific duties/responsibilities/functions

Skilled Specialist 

  • Lead with application of safety principles and processes
  • Ability to complete designated tasks with initial instruction and direction
  • Consistently performs at the acceptable level of productivity; demonstrating mastery of a specific area.
  • Examples: (1) Equipment operator who passed all formal training and demonstrated skills required to safely and efficiently operate all forklifts and travel lifts. (2) Attaining welding certification in the case of a welder, demonstrating efficiency, speed, and quality of work. 

Senior Specialist 

  • Lead with application of safety principles and processes
  • Performs assigned work at consistently high levels of quality and productivity.
  • Demonstrates early stages of ability to train others to perform specified tasks or and/or leadership qualities
  • Examples: (1) Equipment Operator who can train others in the safe operation of all lifts including cranes
  • Bar lifts, A-Frames to Level 1; (2) form-setter who can train others to perform at a Level 1 Specialist

Master Specialist 

  • Lead with application of safety principles and processes
  • Mastery of area of specialty on the most complex projects
  • Can train others to perform at Level 2 and above (Note: A person who can train others to perform high levels of work in terms of safety, productivity and quality will always be held in high regard.
  • Demonstrates leadership qualities beyond that of effective trainer and leads small teams to safely and productively execute assign work (up to a 4 person crew)

JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Job specifications should include all necessary qualifications to perform the full job at an acceptable level

1. Kind and length of experience:

  • 3 to 6 years in concrete, construction, manufacturing or other related fields
  • 5 plus years in a leadership role
  • Experience in Union environment 

Area Specialists and roles defined:

Batch Plant Operator

  • Has been formally trained and demonstrates ability to operate all aspects of batch plants in respective plants
  • Properly maintains equipment, keeping Clark Pacific’s investment in like-new condition at all times
  • Coordinates with QC the deliveries of sand, rock, admixtures and liquid color.
  • Aggressively works with Line Superintendent to limit overages and waste each and every day; looks for ways to schedule work to minimize waste ($100/cy for structural mixes and up to $300/cy for architectural mixes)
  • Assures all mix design parameters are followed and not modified manually without approval from Line Superintendent or qualified QC personnel
  • Knows how to effectively troubleshoot equipment when mix falls out of approved parameters (slump range for architectural mixes or spread for SCC mixes)
  • Demonstrates a consistent safe-work ethic and takes no short-cuts in his work
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Formally trained and demonstrates ability to effectively and safely operate small forklifts, A-Frame forklifts, loader, water truck, and concrete truck
  • Ability to work with a variety of team members (QC, Line personnel, Outside vendors, Foremen and Superintendents, etc.)
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

Certified Welders

  • Attains certification through in-house testing
  • Performs welding operations at a high-level of productivity
  • Able to read and understand all blueprints
  • Demonstrates a consistent safe-work ethic and takes no short-cuts in his work
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

Equipment Operators

  • Formally trained and demonstrates ability to effectively and safely operate small forklifts, A-Frame forklifts, bar lifts and cranes
  • Demonstrates ability to safely rig panels
  • Demonstrates ability to safely store panels in ground racks and stanchions
  • Demonstrates a consistent safe-work ethic and takes no short-cuts in his work
  • Is a team player and demonstrates willingness to cross-train and perform all aspects of yarding and loading (trailer/easel set-up, storage set-up, etc.)
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

 

Form Setter

  • Able to read and understand all blueprints (form, panel and form-change drawings)
  • Able to layout and square perimeter form
  • Knows how to prepare a deck for production
  • Knows to locate form on deck taking into account all future form changes on job
  • Knows how to place both solid and hollow reveals without damaging reveal material of deck surface
  • Knows how to set backtubs and return walls up
  • Knows how to perform basic design and fabrication of, and to utilize adjustable overhead brackets for embeds, inserts and back-form parts
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Has basic welding skills
  • Consistently pays attention to detail – silicone, rebar cover, oiling, vibration, pouring technique, etc.
  • Able to plan ahead, identify potential problems and solutions
  • Reviews cast panels daily to identify issues and ensure quality at the source
  • Demonstrates good skills using a variety of tools (drill, saws, torch, etc.)
  • Demonstrates ability to train others
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

Maintenance

  • Trained in all Lock-Out/Tag-Out procedures
  • Demonstrates competence and knowledge in diesel motor repair, maintenance of motors (gas and diesel), small gas motors, various mechanical systems throughout the plant including batch plants, air and steam systems, office plumbing, electrical work (may require special training
  • Demonstrates a consistent safe-work ethic and takes no short-cuts in his work
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

Maintenance Rebar Fabrication Equipment Operator (shear, bending and stirrup machines)

  • Trained and demonstrates ability to safely and productively operate shear and bending line or Schnell stirrup bender and mesh bender in
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

Finisher/Patcher

  • Trained and demonstrates ability to efficiently and productively patch architectural/structural panels
  • Demonstrated ability to apply float, garage, and hard-trowelled finishes to concrete
  • Able to read and understand all blueprints
  • Demonstrates a consistent safe-work ethic and takes no short-cuts in his work
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues

 Rebar Cage Fabricator Maintenance Rebar Fabrication Equipment Operator (shear, bending and stirrup machines)

 

  • Trained and demonstrates ability to safely and productively tie rebar cares for both architectural and structural panels
  • Able to read and understand rebar and panel drawing and blueprints
  • Has spent time on the production lines to better understand how things fit-up and also how to identify problems related to rebar
  • Demonstrates the ability to plan ahead in order to meet plant schedules and quality requirements
  • Demonstrates ability to lead small team (up to 4 others)
  • Demonstrates an active participation in plant CIS and 6S program. Examples include active and consistent participation in daily team huddles brining up unsafe issues, quality issues, productivity issues and solutions to these issues.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

Kind and length of experience:

  • 3 to 5 years in concrete, construction, manufacturing or other related fields
  • 5 plus years in a leadership role
  • Experience in Union environment a plus

Specialized Knowledge:

  • Ability to read blueprints, tape measures and set up concrete forms
  • Thorough understanding of Safety Procedures
  • Ability to communicate with team members and Management

Minimum Knowledge/education/certification/license requirements:

  • Must be 18 years or older

Physical Requirements (i.e., extended periods of sitting, bending, stooping, standing, walking or driving; frequency of lifting or carrying heavy objects - note required weight; required communication skills - verbal/auditory):

  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl throughout shift and/or long periods of time
  • Ability to climb up to 15 feet, and maintain balance.
  • Manuel dexterity, eye-hand coordination and ability to meet physical requirements.
  • Must be able to frequently lift up to 50lbs
  • Vision abilities including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to utilize hearing protection and maintain required communication. \
  • Must be able to read and speak basic English

Environmental Factors (e.g., ability to work in extreme heat/cold, ability to work at heights over 15 feet, ability to work 3rd shift, travel, ability to work weekends/on-call).

  • Able to work safely on/around moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions, extreme cold, and extreme heat, wet and/or humid condition, fumes airborne particles and vibration.
  • Noise level is usually moderate to loud
  • Shift times and overtime may vary depending on production levels and processes.
