Job Description

Under the general direction of the Branch Chief, Office of Workers' Compensation (WC), Return to Work and Reasonable Accommodation/FMLA programs, a Staff Services Manager I in the Division of Safety & Management Services (DSMS), the incumbent serves as an analyst providing administrative, training, and analytical support for the WC and Return to Work Program, and Reasonable Accommodation/FMLA Programs.

 Specifically, the incumbent will handle a case load of Caltrans employees who are on leave and/or are working with medical issues by: 1) Consulting with employees, supervisors, and managers regarding medical issues, reasonable accommodation, return to work, and fitness for duty medical evaluations; 2) coordinating with various stakeholders regarding assigned cases; 3) reviewing and interpreting medical reports to determine the most appropriate course of action; 4) maintaining accurate and complete case documentation.

Statement of Qualifications

In addition to an Employment Application (STD 678), a Statement of Qualifications (SOQ) is a narrative discussion of how your education, training, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities qualify you for this position. The SOQ also serves as documentation of your ability to present information clearly and concisely in writing and will be considered the first phase of the hiring process.

The SOQ must be typed, no more than two pages in length, and specifically address the following questions:

  1. Describe your knowledge of applying the principles and practices of departmental Reasonable Accommodation and/or employee benefit programs (e.g. State Disability Insurance and Non-Industrial Disability Insurance, the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA)/California Family Rights Act (CFRA)). 
  2. Describe your experience training others, including the development of training materials.
  3. Describe your experience working in a lead capacity.
