The City of Sacramento's Department of Utilities is seeking to fill several vacant Civil Engineer positions in different sections within our Engineering Division.
Associate Civil Engineer
This is the full journey level class in the civil engineering series requiring registration. Positions in the class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Assistant Civil Engineer, or, when filled from the outside, require prior advanced professional civil engineering work experience. An Associate Civil Engineer works under general supervision and is expected to complete complex civil engineering assignments requiring the use of judgment and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting general policies, and determining work assignments. Work in this class is distinguished from that of the Assistant Civil Engineer class by the greater complexity of the assignment
The Engineering and Water Resources Division
The Engineering and Water Resources Division (E&WR) is one of 5 divisions within the Department of Utilities. E&WR provides engineering and technical support to the Operations and Maintenance Division; plans, designs and constructs several millions of dollars of capital improvements each year; develops short and long-range capital improvement priorities and works with the Director and the Business and Integrated Planning Division to strategically plan for future funding requirements; works closely with other city departments and the development community to plan for and build high quality, reliable infrastructure to serve new neighborhoods; and assures compliance with the ever increasing and demanding regulatory requirements and mandates that face the Department.
Environmental and Regulatory Compliance
The Environmental and Regulatory Compliance section, Associate Engineer position performs essential activities related to the City's Stormwater NPDES Permit and the Sewer System Waste Discharge Requirements (WDR). The main areas of focus for this position is managing the Stormwater Permit’s Construction Program that includes maintaining standards, training municipal staff, overseeing construction inspection, conducting enforcement, and preparing regulatory reports. The engineering position will also oversee groundwater drainage system discharge permitting and approval and support the Trash Capture program, the New Development Program and the Sewer WDR.
Wastewater (WW) Capital Improvement Program (CIP)
The Wastewater (WW) Capital Improvement Project (CIP) section, Associate Engineer position performs essential activities related to master and project planning, CIP project management, and asset management. The main areas of focus for this position is collaboration with Operation and Maintenance (O&M) and includes managing master planning and CIP prioritization coordination with (O&M) on the collection system and provides support to development of WW studies, asset management, and plan review. This position also includes project management for WW CIP Projects, which includes preparing design plans, specifications, budgets, and provides construction management for WW CIP’s.
