The Superintendent is responsible for the day-to-day field leadership of construction crews for assigned scopes of work within the division. This is a field-based position that ensures work is executed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with project plans and specifications. Superintendents coordinate layout, equipment, materials, trucking, and labor for their assigned scope, and serve as the primary field contact for the office team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Receive and review job packet from hand off meeting which will include plans and specifications
- Support and train foremen on layout and production expectations.
- Maintain a visible presence in the field during active operations.
- Direct and support foremen for assigned crews.
- Provide daily and weekly layout and production goals per schedule given by the PM.
- Assist foremen with interpreting plans and resolving scope issues in the field.
- Call in material orders to suppliers, fabrications shops, or plants appropriate for the project scope assisted by PM when needed.
- Determine quantity and schedule of deliveries; manage trucking needs for each operation.
- Select and schedule trucking companies and specialized equipment as required by the division.
- Coordinate delivery and movement of equipment to and from job sites.
- Communicate jobsite issues, layout changes, or plan conflicts to the Project Manager.
- Relay RFI needs to the PM and Project Coordinator for drafting and submission.
- Participate in weekly coordination meetings and calls as needed.
- Track and submit Daily Extra Work Reports (DEWRs) for T&M work and submit them to the PM/PC.
- Collect and turn in all jobsite paperwork including truck tags, concrete tickets, and delivery slips.
- Maintain a daily log or summary of crew activity, weather, equipment, and production.
- Measure quantities of work completed in the field using units appropriate for the project scope.
- Create hand-drawn sketches or mark up plans to document work installed.
- Submit documented quantities to the Project Manager for review and billing coordination.
- Notify the PM and Project Coordinator of any discrepancies or changes from bid quantities.
- Provide clear sketches or markups to support pay application preparation by the Project Coordinator.
- Supervise subcontractors working within the Superintendent’s scope.
- Ensure subcontracted work meets schedule, quality, and safety expectations.
- Support a clean, organized, and safe jobsite.
- Immediately report safety incidents or concerns to the Safety Manager, PM and office, ensure incident report has been completed.
- Verify completed work meets contract specifications and tolerances.
- Address punch list items or quality concerns proactively.
- 5+ years of construction field experience in the applicable trade.
- 2+ years in a leadership or supervisory role preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Strong understanding of field production, layout, and equipment operations.
- Clear communication skills and ability to work with office and field teams.
- Ability to walk and work on active construction sites for extended periods.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds and perform physical tasks related to layout and supervision.
- Must be available for early start times and occasional extended shifts.

Position Levels:
The Superintendent role at B&M Builders is structured into three levels based on project complexity, scope, and leadership responsibilities:
Superintendent 1 (Sup1) – Entry-level Superintendents responsible for small projects or subcontractor roles. Works under close supervision with limited scope ownership.
Superintendent 2 (Sup2) – Intermediate Superintendents with authority over mid-size jobs including small public works or GC-level private projects. Operates semi-independently.
Superintendent 3 (Sup3) – Senior Superintendents responsible for large-scale public works and complex projects. Leads field strategy, production, safety, and quality independently.
