The Attorney III provides comprehensive, senior-level legal support and counsel to the California Correctional Training and Rehabilitation Board (Board), the California Correctional Training and Rehabilitation Authority (CALCTRA) and its managers, supervisors, programs, and operations on a variety of legal issues, such as constitutional, statutory, regulatory, correctional, public contracting, employment and labor, workplace safety and health, privacy, and administrative law. The incumbent serves as the lead attorney for CALCTRA in most administrative hearings and must be able to perform complex and sensitive legal work with broad discretion and minimal supervision under pressure. Must develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with clients, colleagues, public, and stakeholders as well as act with a high ethical standard.

Minimum Qualifications - All classifications require active membership in The California State Bar. Five years of legal experience in the practice of law*.

Desirable Qualifications

Desirable Qualifications are not required but are listed to demonstrate what experience/education would make the selected candidate most successful in this position. If you have this education/experience, you are encouraged to include this information in your application.

  • Experience working as a licensed attorney for any California State governmental entity
  • Trial and/or administrative hearing experience
  • Experience as an attorney advising or representing clients in employment law
  • Experience as an attorney advising or representing clients in correctional law
  • Experience advising or representing clients regarding OSHA issues
