The Associate Electrical Engineer position provides support to the Senior Engineer as required or may manage smaller to medium-sized projects under the supervision of a Senior Engineer. This position may report to a Senior Engineer or the Supervising Engineer. This position supports the Architectural and Engineering (A&E) section in the Division of Facilities and Real Property Management in the Department of Public Works. The A&E section provides support for the maintenance of existing buildings and the construction of new buildings.
IDEAL CANDIDATE STATEMENT
The City of Sacramento is seeking an experienced Associate or Assistant Electrical Engineer (requiring licensure for the Associate Electrical position), with experience in building and facilities power and lighting design. The ideal candidate will have experience designing electrical systems for a large variety of building types. Experience with police facilities, fire stations, and commercial office buildings is preferred. The ability to collaborate with mechanical, structural, and architectural consultants and contractors is desired. Technical writing skills and a strong understanding of construction is also desired.

To perform professional electrical engineering work in the planning, design, technical investigation, and construction of public works and building related projects.
Associate Electrical Engineer
This is the full journey level class in the electrical engineering series requiring registration. Positions in the class are flexibly staffed and are normally filled by advancement from the lower class of Assistant Electrical Engineer, or, when filled from the outside, require prior advanced professional electrical engineering work experience. An Associate Electrical Engineer works under general supervision and is expected to complete complex electrical engineering assignments requiring the use of judgement and initiative in developing solutions to problems, interpreting general policies, and determining work assignments. Work in this class is distinguished from that of the Assistant Electrical Engineer class by the greater complexity of the assignments received and by the greater independence with which an incumbent is expected to operate.
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION

PROBATIONARY PERIOD
Employees must successfully complete twelve (12) months of probation at a satisfactory performance level prior to gaining permanent status.
