Plumbing Instructor

Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Plumbing Instructor to teach and mentor apprentices, maintain and enhance our plumbing curriculum, and lead hands-on training exercises. The ideal candidate is an experienced plumber with strong communication skills and a passion for developing the next generation of tradespeople.
Key Responsibilities
- Teach plumbing classes following the established curriculum and hands-on training exercises.
- Coordinate and attend local and out-of-town jobsite safety visits, as well as trade shows and career fairs as scheduling allows.
- Maintain accurate student grades and class documentation for each class level.
- Maintain, update and enhance existing plumbing curriculum to align with current plumbing codes.
- Maintain digital lesson plans and electronic coursework; support student use of computers and digital materials.
- Build and maintain relationships with vendors; schedule product demonstrations and field trips.
- Assist in identifying, training, and supporting substitute instructors.
- Design, build, and maintain training labs, tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Help coordinate and run the plumbing contest.
- Prepare school reports and materials for committee meetings.
- Attend meetings related to code development.
Qualifications
- Valid California driver’s license.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Prior teaching experience; experience with apprenticeship programs is a plus.
- Minimum 10 years of plumbing experience, including:
- New construction (commercial and residential)
- Service and repair
- Experience training or supervising apprentices on the job.
- Graduate of an apprenticeship program (state-approved program preferred) is a plus.
- Strong computer skills and organization skills, including proficiency with:
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint
- Adobe
- AutoCAD
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and industry partners.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively; self-motivated with strong leadership and time management skills.
- Willingness to follow established procedures and reporting/compliance processes, and to help identify and implement improvements.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to bend, reach, and lift materials up to 40 lbs.
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods.
- Regular use of office equipment and computers, including use of sharp tools or materials in lab settings.
- Ability to communicate clearly by phone, email, and in person with both small and large groups.
- Ability to maintain accuracy and focus in environments with occasional distractions.
- Some travel required, including possible evening and weekend work, using a personal vehicle.
