Under direct supervision provided by the Staff Services Manager I in the California Leave Accounting System (CLAS) Unit, the incumbent operates at the full journey level, performing tasks associated with training, maintenance, and enhancement of the statewide CLAS.
Duties Performed:

- Provide customer service support, troubleshooting, and guidance or instruction to CLAS users via the Leave Accounting Liaison, or a statewide basis by utilizing LAS, LMS (a.k.a. MSG), PIP, PIMS, POIS/HIST, ViewDirect, CSP, etc. Monitor and maintain the CLAS to ensure data integrity and that it conforms with changes to laws, rules, policies, and bargaining unit contracts, and that it continues to meet the needs of the end user. Analyze bargaining unit contract changes, legislation, CalHR memos, etc. in order to determine necessary modifications to the CLAS and/or curriculum. Identify issues that may or may not affect the system and provide analysis in determining impacts to the system.
- Conduct statewide training for departments new to or currently on the CLAS. Schedule training classes based on the needs of departments. Develop, update, and maintain training material and curriculum consistent with statewide policy and system modifications, including information found in the CLAS Workbook as well as the web site due to collective bargaining, legislation, CalHR memos, etc. Maintain and update the training database on a monthly basis by performing database refresh and updating/maintaining logon IDs for the database.
- Define business function requirements and perform customer acceptance testing related to system service requests, involving updates and/or modifications that are highly complex, have a broad impact, or high profile updates to the CLAS based upon policy changes to bargaining unit contracts, legislation, other statewide policies and/or as a result of executive orders. Perform high profile mass updates to the CLAS on a statewide basis by creating, updating, and/or scheduling batch processes and Mark IV/SQL reports.
- Perform updates, modifications, and customer acceptance testing of the 24 Leave Accounting tables in the Table Inquiry and Maintenance System based upon the analysis of policy changes to bargaining unit contracts, legislation, CalHR memos, executive orders, department mergers, and other changes related to employment history, payroll, and statewide policy.
- Perform research, troubleshooting, and analysis of the CLAS, utilizing ad hoc reporting in the Statewide and Management Information Retrieval Systems (SWIRS/MIRS) as well as the On-line Query (OLQ) System, based on the types of policy changes listed above. Make recommendations to management for implementing system changes based on new or changing policy. Execute and monitor auditing reports related to the CLAS and contact departments regarding the errors. Prepare Mark IV system archive reports as requested from departments.
- Function as lead in the creation of monthly and annual schedules for approximately 35 batch processes and Mark IV/SQL reports utilized to update and extract data from the CLAS on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis, including the LAS Operations and Decentralized Calendars.
- Assist in batch and cursory testing of IDMS system upgrades and customer acceptance testing of modifications to the CLAS, PIP, etc. Develop instructions in the form of memos and leave letters regarding system updates and policy changes on the CLAS. Some travel may be required. Any other tasks necessary to support the unit.
