Under close supervision of an Information Technology Supervisor I, the Information Technology Technician (incumbent) will support the Production Operations (PO) Unit, and other customers within the State Controller's Office (SCO). The duties of this position are focused in the Software Engineering domain; however, work may be assigned in other domains as appropriate.
The incumbent will perform a full range of batch processing assignments on a mainframe, utilizing advanced technologies. The incumbent must possess excellent interpersonal skills and communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and electronically with SCO personnel and external clients/peers. The incumbent must be willing to work extended hours (graveyard and day shifts), weekends, and be on call in an Operational or Business Recovery event.
Duties Performed:

- Monitor, check in and balance all production batch jobs, verifying inputs, counts and condition codes. Prepare/ complete run sheets, logs, interface sheets, route, fax, and email output data. File run sheets, turnovers, hot sheets, stat sheets, and archive all jobs. Ensure production schedules are met. Ensure maintenance and operational procedures are documented and in place to support production systems. Respond to and resolve client requests or incidents. Configure and/or modify software processes that support production operations processing.
- Troubleshoot processing issues to identify causes of system failures and service interruptions. Apply required fix to restore normal operations.
- Train on all systems (e.g. Financial, Payroll, Employment History, etc.) to perform as a primary for routine processes and a backup on critical processes. Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and trends.
- Write Job Control Language (JCL) and modify ISPF Panels/C-Lists/Dialogs, as required to ensure production jobs are executed correctly.
- Update and maintain backup files, control information for major processes, databases, View Direct and related system tables.
