The Sly Park Environmental Education Center is seeking a talented professional to join our team! Sly Park Environmental Education Center cultivates environmental literacy through experiential and place-based learning. Our staff supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of participants in our programs, which enriches understanding of California’s Next Generation Science Standards and Environmental Principles & Concepts.

Job Summary

As a Cafeteria Assistant, you will help provide nutritious meals to students, clients, and staff in a vibrant outdoor education setting. Under direction, you will assist the cook in preparing and serving meals in accordance with special dietary needs and food allergies, and set up the salad bar and serving areas. Your responsibilities include cleaning and sanitizing kitchen equipment and dining areas, operating the dishwasher, storing food deliveries, and helping ensure student safety in the cafeteria.

Salary and Benefits

Starting salary is $20.55 per hour with 5 annual incremental increases to $26.26 per hour plus benefits. Full-time, 8 hours per day, Monday through Friday, 244 days per year.

This position includes a benefit allowance of $1,169.58 per month for single health coverage, $1844.58 for 2-party, or $2,044.58 for family coverage, which includes medical, dental, life, vision, and TSA options.

Qualifications

Successful candidates will possess any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to the duties and responsibilities described in the job description. Experience working around groups of children is desirable. A Food Safety Certification must be obtained within 30 days of hire; SCOE covers the cost of the training. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing methods, sanitary food handling, common food allergies, and safe use of commercial kitchen equipment. The ability to stand for long periods, lift supplies, follow directions, and work independently to meet timelines is essential. The ability to work cooperatively with staff, parents, and students is also vital.
