Sacramento County Jobs

The State of California is the largest employer in town. Every state job posts on CalCareers, and the CalHR Job Center at 1810 16th Street downtown is open on Tuesdays for help with applications. The County of Sacramento hires through GovernmentJobs, and so do the cities of Sacramento, Elk Grove, Folsom, Citrus Heights and Rancho Cordova. Carmichael is unincorporated, so its public employer is the county.

Hospitals are the other anchor. UC Davis Medical Center is on X Street, Sutter Medical Center on Capitol Avenue and Mercy General on J Street. Kaiser Permanente has medical centers on Morse Avenue and on Bruceville Road in South Sacramento, and Mercy San Juan Medical Center is in Carmichael.

Sacramento State on J Street and the four Los Rios colleges, American River, Cosumnes River, Folsom Lake and Sacramento City, hire faculty and staff through their own portals. The school districts post on EDJOIN or their own sites: Sacramento City Unified, Elk Grove Unified, San Juan Unified for Carmichael and Citrus Heights, Folsom Cordova Unified, Twin Rivers and the Sacramento County Office of Education.

SMUD, the community-owned electric utility, Sacramento Regional Transit and the county’s four airports, including Sacramento International and Mather, round out the public side. Folsom’s own employer list names Intel, Kaiser Permanente, Dignity Health, Micron and Folsom State Prison. Elk Grove’s general plan names Apple, Cardinal Health, Amazon and Kubota.

The Los Rios colleges cover the county, with centers in Elk Grove and Rancho Cordova. The electrical and plumbing apprenticeship centers, Sacramento Job Corps on Meadowview Road and the Sacramento Works job centers are all inside the county.

The Scottish Rite Center is at 6151 H Street in East Sacramento, opposite the Sacramento State campus. SacRT’s Gold Line stops at University/65th Street, the closest station to the campus, with trains from Historic Folsom, Rancho Cordova’s Mather Field/Mills station and downtown. Elk Grove’s commuter buses run to downtown on Interstate 5 and Highway 99. Citrus Heights and Carmichael reach the center by Interstate 80 and the Capital City Freeway, and Folsom and Rancho Cordova by Highway 50.
